Is It Time To Replace Your Windows?

Get Better Energy Efficiency:

Many older homes have original windows built with single-pane glass. These old windows often freeze open or shut, and they feel cold or icy to the touch. With heating and cooling costs on the rise, replacing aging, drafty windows with efficient, tight-fitting ones can have a big impact on your energy bills. Newer energy-efficient windows offer standard insulating features such as heat-reflecting low-E coatings and argon gas between panes, which can save homeowners anywhere from 10-25% each year on heating and cooling costs.

Reduce Noise:

If you live near an airport, child care center, school, or a busy street, noise can be a problem in your home. By simply replacing your windows with dual-pane, triple-pane or a laminated glass will greatly reduce outside noise transmission into your home.

Protect Your Furnishings:

Ultraviolet rays entering through windows and patio doors can lead to fading of furniture, carpet, window treatments, artwork and more. These and other materials, especially ones with organic fabrics, are susceptible to fading when exposed to sunlight. Upgrading your windows to more energy efficient products can potentially reduce the fading and extend the life of your belongings. Most replacement windows are available with glass that blocks up to 95% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays that can cause premature fading.

Eliminate the Need for Storm Windows:

The annual ritual of installing and removing storm windows can be challenging and time-consuming, especially for multi-level homes. The energy efficiency of replacement windows eliminates the need to install and remove storm windows.

The Benefits Of New Windows

Keep the Weather Outside:

The weather conditions outside your home should not affect the inside. Older windows can leak, allowing water to come into your house both in front of and behind the walls—a leading cause of mold and mildew in homes; older windows and doors can also allow insect and small rodent infiltration. Aging windows or patio doors often leak air, resulting in high energy bills during peak heating and cooling months.

Add Curb Appeal:

Your home is a big investment and an important part of your life. Replacing old windows and doors can greatly improve the look and value of your home.

Increase Your Safety:

Is everyone in your household able to open and close the windows? If the windows are difficult to open or close or do not completely open or close, this can pose a serious danger. This is especially true in the event of a fire. For these reasons, it is important to replace malfunctioning windows.

Clean Windows More Easily:

Old double-hung windows had to be cleaned from the outside. New double-hung windows feature easy to clean designs, which means the exterior glass can be cleaned from inside by tilting the sash inward for easy access. This is especially important for second-story, third-story or very large windows.

Put an End to Costly Maintenance:

Want to eliminate the job of painting your window frames for good? Replace your current windows with aluminum-clad, vinyl-clad or fiberglass windows. Most replacement windows offer exterior trim that never needs to be painted.

ProVia and Pella Windows & Doors for Your Home

ProVia, Pella and many other available window/door manufacturers have provided innovative designs. A&A offers a great selection of products when choosing replacement windows and doors, while still prioritizing quality, experience and energy efficiency.

Awning Windows

Awning Windows are truly versatile and add soft curves that complement the horizontal and vertical lines of traditional windows and doors. Also referred to as radius windows, this window style is both elegant and striking in appearance, adding a unique design element to historical, traditional, and modern homes alike.

Arched Windows

The bottom half of the window is rectangular while the top is an arch or half-circle.

Bow Windows (top) & Bay Windows (bottom)

Bow Windows are an equally curved bay window with three to six openings. Bow windows are designed to create space by projecting beyond the exterior wall of a building, and typically incorporate casement windows, which join together to form an equal arch or radius of 10 and 15 degrees.

Bay Windows are made up of three windows in a wood frame that’s projecting outward from the main walls of a building and forming a bay in a room.

Single Hung

Single Hung Windows have one fixed sash on the top and one moveable sash on the bottom. This allows it to slide up from the bottom, partially covering the top sash. They typically do not have the capability to tilt in and out.

Double Hung

Known as “sash” windows, can be raised from the bottom or lowered from the top for convenient ventilation and cleaning.

Casement Windows

Casement Windows are hinged on one side and open outward from the turn of a handle. Their uncluttered views and outward opening design allow for optimal natural light and air flow.

Garden Windows

Also called greenhouse windows or mini solariums, are made to extend the usable area of kitchens and baths, where humidity helps with growing potted plants. They allow more light and better view than traditional flat windows, while keeping good ventilation.

Garden Windows

Hopper Windows are hinged at the bottom and tilt in to offer increased ventilation. Hopper windows are often paired with other fixed or operable windows and doors or incorporated into transoms. Basement windows are another popular use for hopper windows. Windows in basements are essential for light and ventilation, and the hopper window fulfills both needs in the limited space typically provided by basements.

Picture Windows

Picture Windows are large, fixed-pane window, generally made without glazing bars. A picture window gets its name from the fact that it is designed to give you a clear view of your surroundings without any obstructions, essentially acting as a picture frame for the scenery outside the window.

Skylight Windows

Skylights are a type of roof window that transmits light for utilising the benefit of daylight. The origin of skylights traced back to ancient Roman architecture until the Industrial Revolution. And then in the middle of the 20th century, skylights have evolved based on their use.

Circle Windows

Circle Windows are growing in popularity, though they have always been a feature in many homes where the homeowner wants to create a unique look. Round windows are circular windows which are installed as a separate window in an attic, loft or gable or in conjunction with other windows as part of a window grouping.

Storm Windows

Storm Windows refers to windows that are installed on the outside of the already-installed, primary house windows. Their reason for being is to give extra wind protection and weather insulation. Storm windows are installed on top of your existing windows to normalize the temperature inside.

Sliding Windows

Sliding Windows are horizontal, with sashes that slide back and forth rather than up and down like more traditional windows. They are essentially double hung windows turned on their side.

Transom Windows

Transom Windows are typically rectangular-shaped windows that are added to homes above a door frame. Some are operable, meaning they can be opened and closed, while others are fixed.

How To Find A Reputable Window Installer

Correct installation is just as important as a quality window. It pays to have your windows professionally installed. Even the best windows on the market will only function as intended if they’re properly insulated and sealed. To find an expert and reputable window installer, here are a few factors to keep in mind:

  • Experience:
Finding the right replacement windows for your home can add tremendous value to your living space. When choosing from the latest styles and materials, your first instinct may be that you can do it yourself…and you probably can. But remember, your time is valuable and installing windows and doors is a skill that requires expertise, especially when you see all the options available to you. We hope you will consider A&A to walk you through the selection and buying process.
  • Equipment :
In order to have a window installed correctly, up-to-date, quality tools are required. The craftsmen installers at A&A Roofing & Exteriors properly secure your window systems so that they are airtight and firmly in place. The importance of installing a window correctly is to prevent moisture build up, water or air leaks. Many homeowners will power wash the exteriors of their windows; a properly installed window from A&A will ensure that no water gets in. It’s important that windows are completely sealed around the perimeter with waterproof membranes and high-end exterior caulk. Many windows have metal flashing as well.
  • Warranty:
A&A offers the best manufacturer warranties available. Many manufacturers will transfer the warranty even after you sell your home. When called for service, our technician can help you address warranty issues.
