So, you’ve made a smart decision and have upgraded to a premium walk-in bathtub from A&A Roofing & Exteriors. You and your family, potentially including any elderly or disabled family members, are ready to enjoy all the benefits of your portable bathtub – from safety to hydrotherapy and much more.
We know you’re excited, but it’s important to temper your exuberance long enough to pay attention to a few basic bits of cleaning and maintenance. You want that beautiful tub to last years or even decades, and we can help you make that happen. Here are some simple cleaning and maintenance tips for your walk-in tub.
Does your home use hard water, or soft water? It may seem like a meaningless distinction, but there are different stains and different cleaners you’ll need to use to clean deposits and other gunk based on which kind of water is running.
Specific knowledge of exactly what your tub is made of will go a long way to helping you maintain it. At A&A Roofing & Exteriors, our walk-in tubs are made using the finest quality premium acrylic surfaces, which are generally more resistant to cracks and water damage over time than any other product on the market. For our products, use a non-abrasive cleaner or even just mild soap and water.
Just in case there happen to be any issues with your walk-in tub, be well aware of your warranty before you pay a single dime. We offer limited lifetime warranties on all our products at A&A Roofing & Exteriors, but not all vendors are necessarily so reputable. Know exactly what your options will be in worst-case scenarios should anything go wrong.
Any walk-in bathtub you purchase from A&A Roofing & Exteriors is meant to last years while providing comfort and safety for those utilizing it, and you as a buyer have some control over this area. We’re referring to standard care and maintenance of any portable tub, which is just as important as any other tub or bathing surface in your home – and perhaps even more so when you consider hydrotherapy jets and other important components that need basic upkeep.
The simplest area of upkeep to keep on top of? Standard cleaning, which should be done on both a short- and long-term basis for your walk-in tub. Let’s go over each layer of tub cleaning you should be considering: Daily cleaning, weekly or monthly cleanouts, and larger deep cleaning projects that should take place every few months.
In place of “daily,” we could also have listed “after each use” – there are a couple very simple things you should do after every time the tub is used to ensure it remains clean and, perhaps more importantly, safe for the next use.
After bathing, simply rinse the entire tub down with warm water. This is to remove any soap residue, body oils or other leftover elements from the tub. Also rinse off the fixtures. If you are struggling to reach certain areas of the tub here, use the shower wand feature to wash out every area.
After a few weeks or months, depending on how often the tub is used, buildups may begin to form in the tub. This is natural, and nothing to worry about long-term, but you should still address these areas with a slightly more involved clean.
For starters, fill the tub up with hot water. Water should reach roughly the height of the seats in the tub, or perhaps a tad higher. From here, add two or three tablespoons of detergent – preferably a low-foaming type such as granules used in the dishwasher. Run your tub’s jets for about 10 minutes, activating the detergent and spreading it throughout the tub. Finally, drain the tub completely, then fill it again with clean water and run the jets again for 15 more minutes to rinse everything out.
Finally, every few months depending on tub use, you should be doing a full-on deep clean. Fill the tub to seat height again, only this time grab some rubber gloves before you add a detergent. In addition, also add a half-cup of bleach along with your detergent.
From here, fill the tub until the water reaches all the way above the jets. Then turn on the water and jets for 15 minutes. After this, let the water sit for a few minutes, then run the jets again. When this is all finished, drain the tub and fill it with clean water for a final 15-minute rinse-out.
